Windows 10 Update KB4041676 Menyebabkan PC Anda Tidak Bisa Boot / BSOD? (Late)

10 Oktober 2017, Microsoft merilis update dengan kode KB4041676. Namun, setelah diupdate keluar BSOD saat booting yang mengakibatkan bootloop. Kenapa bisa?

The Origin

Banyak laporan / komplain dari pengguna Windows 10 yang terkena BSOD saat booting disaat selesai update kemarin (10 Oktober 2017). Tidak ada penjelasan kenapa adanya BSOD. Ada salah satu pengguna yang komplain ke Microsoft karena update tersebut.

I deploy patches via SCCM on a regular basis to nearly 5500 clients worldwide. My first group of Alpha systems which contains all of my own workstations receive the first round of patches as a test. ALL of the systems running 1703 blue screen upon reboot AFTER applying this patch (KB4041676).

The message that comes up is INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE. After that, it reboots automatically, attempts to boot again, and then displays the “Automatic Repair” screen. None of these systems make it past this message.

My ALPHA test systems range from brand new Lenovo laptops, 2 Lenovo desktops, 1 Dell desktop, 2 custom built desktops, and 10 VMs.

Tidak hanya itu, ada juga salah satu pengguna PC yang terkena BSOD.

Any computers that we had on overnight and have rebooted are no longer starting up with a blue screen and INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE.

We’ve tried all the standard stuff:

Bootrec /fixmbr /fixboot /rebuildos
Renamed bcd file and tried rebuildos
tried copying SAM,SOFTWARE,DEFAULT,SYSTEM from regback
tried sfc /scannow
tried dism /image:DRIVE:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth

So far NOTHING has brought the computers back. These are varying models as well across laptops and desktops, the main contributing factors are Windows 10 1703 and the KB 4041676 update.

Update #1 (USB Type-C Problem)

Di update berikutnya, ada salah satu pengguna Windows 10 yang berkomentar tentang update tersebut

“Systems with support enabled for USB Type-C Connector System Software Interface (UCSI) may experience a blue screen or stop responding with a black screen when a system shutdown is initiated.”

Tapi, masih belum diketahui kenapa PC dengan USB Type-C bisa terjadi BSOD. Dan, ada juga yang melaporkan bahwa PC tanpa USB Type-C terkena BSOD

Update #2 (Issue Fixed)

Di update berikutnya, Staff dari Microsoft menjawab bahwa issue-issue update tersebut telah berhasil diperbaiki lewat Windows Update. Dan juga ada yang bilang kalau yang terkena BSOD hanya Enterprise Customer

“Some customers may have experienced issues in Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) deployment of KB 4041676and KB 4041691, which has been resolved. Most customers receive updates from Windows and Microsoft Update, and were not affected.”

Update #3 (Solution for Enterprise Customer)

Dan, 12 Oktober 2017, Microsoft merilis perbaikan PC yang terkena BSOD (Hanya Enterprise Customer).

  1. WSUS/SCCM Administrators that synced the October 10th update (KB4041676 or KB4041691) before 4pm PDT October 10 may still have these KBs cached.
  2. WSUS/SCCM managed devices that downloaded the October 10 KB4041676 or KB4041691 update with publishing issues and have devices in a pending reboot state.
  3. WSUS/SCCM managed devices that installed the October 10 KB4041676 or KB4041691 update and are unable to boot and/or may land on a recovery screen.
